Annual Campaign
According to Jewish tradition, the highest form of tzedakah or charity is giving to a central annual campaign or community fund. This guarantees the privacy and dignity of the poor as well as the successful maintenance of communal "agencies." As such, the United Jewish Council of Greater Toledo’s annual campaign works towards satisfying the needs concerned with the entire community – its continued viability and vibrancy – and the dignity of all of its members, including our community members who may live thousands of miles away, but are no less precious to us than those who live next door.
Further, a donation to the United Jewish Council of Greater Toledo’s annual campaign is an investment by donors, and serves as a statement that our community members are committed to the vitality of our community, to the Jewish people in Israel, the Former Soviet Union, and to Jewish people everywhere.
The
Ben Gurion Society is a national donor recognition group for
individuals ages 25-45, who give either a minimum individual gift of $500 or a
minimum family gift of $1,000 to the United Jewish Council of Greater Toledo’s
Annual Campaign. Join other Jewish young adults by stepping up and helping to
shape our community as well as the future of world Jewry.
The
Lion of Judah recognition program was introduced by the Miami Jewish
Federation in 1972, and endorsed nationally in 1980, to honor philanthropic
women. Lions of Judah act on the strong belief that Tzedakah is an individual
responsibility by making a significant and continuing personal gift to the
annual campaign. More than 13,000 women in North America, Israel and around the
world are recognized as Lions of Judah by their peers. Here in Toledo over 42
women who contribute a minimum of $5,000 to the Federation’s annual campaign are
Lions of Judah who proudly wear their pins as symbols of their commitment.
