Living on a kibbutz just two kilometers from Gaza, Livnat Kotz was tired of terror and destruction. So she decided to inspire joy and creativity.
With a grant from the Negev Funding Coalition, an innovative partnership between Federations and the Israeli government to help changemakers revitalize this crucial region, she was able to attend a course at Ben Gurion University of the Negev on creative placemaking. There, she learned how to utilize arts and culture to help heal people and develop their communities.
Inspired, Livnat opened Beit Melacha, an open art studio where everyone—young and old, Jewish and Muslim—gets their hands dirty building, sculpting, weaving, molding, doodling and planting a better future for the region, together.
