Ukrainian Winters Are Tough; Tania Is Tougher

Winter in Eastern Europe. The temperature is -27 ˚ F, and snow and ice have closed the roads. But Tania is riding a borrowed horse and sleigh packed with food and supplies from Federation partner JDC for Tatiana and Bronislav. She’ll make this hour-long trek every day because Tatiana and Bronislav are elderly and disabled. Living on a remote farm, they rely on Tania to survive. “I am doing everything for them as for my relatives,” Tania says. “I do not see any difficulties in my work; how is it possible to have hardships in the work that you love?”
